British people or at least London people are WARM people in every possible way and today, if we need one, we have had a new proof. The weather was so cold! Well, it was not freezing but the wind blew on our poor faces without any sympathy! And of course, since we are optimistic guys we have just brought some lighter jackets in our suitcase because after all, holidays mean mild weather and has never ever meant warm clothes and cold temperatures! We are not the kind of guys who enjoy skying and going on holidays in some snow-covered places. But that's not my point! As I was saying, London people are warm and today, while we were shaking like "unaccustomed" snowmen (maybe this metaphor is too strong but I can't find another one proper enough), people in the streets were for the most wearing tee-shirts, light skirts and even some tank tops that would have seemed inappropriate even in Cancun! Ah la la (French expression) we love London and its people so much! They are so different from the French because they are not afraid. Afraid of what people may think or may say. They are who they are and that's so cool. They are comfortable with who they are and are not scared of mixing! Mixing prints, mixing between each other or mixing things that at first sight would seem antagonistic. Like (are you ready for this? Not sure you are but we see this today...) Primark and Chanel! Yes, a woman was holding two shopping bags: one from Primark one from Chanel! It was quite a shock but after all, why not?
Today was also marked by a shopping experience or shoud we say THE shopping experience: Dover Street Market! A kind of labyrinth (6 floors) dedicated to Fashion where all the brands are mixed together (once again this idea of mixing!) from experienced designers ( Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Jil Sander, Céline, Saint Laurent Paris) to young talents (Jacquemus, Simone Rocha, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Julien David, Craig Green...). The originality of Rei Kawakubo mega store lies in the fact that everything is made to take the customers into a shopping experience. Moreover, some lines of Comme des Garçons are sold exclusively in Dover Street Market so if you want to see unique things, it's HERE and nowhere else. The selection of clothes is highly desirable and under the direction of Rei Kawakubo so thanks to this store we know better her vision of Fashion and the ones she loves and encourages. This place is a national treasure!
Here are some of the pictures we took during this first day in London with some pics at Tate Modern (a place we love so much!) and some of the Selfridges's amazing windows.
