LINKS A LA MODE: THE WEEKLY ROUNDUP [04/24]

This week, the Independent Fashion Bloggers chose to feature our article about the latest Saint Laurent Paris collection in their weekly Links A La Mode. So if you haven't read it yet, it is the perfect moment and if you want to discover some other great blogs, the links can be found above.

Digital Darlings

Last year, "selfie" was word of the year. As bloggers we're all wrapped up in our online personas, it's non-stop being on social media and creating content, all the while being fabulous. Does this take a toll on bloggers and fashionistas alike? Maybe... This week we have a lot of both sides of the coin in terms of fashion, style, and living online.

PETIT BATEAU X SATU MAARANEN

Petit Bateau's legacy is obviously the marinière which is a timeless knit striped piece inspired by French navy seamen's uniform dating back to 1858. The uniform had originally 21 stripes as each represented one of Napoleon's victories. Coco Chanel made it one element of her language and Jean Paul Gaultier his signature. The collaboration with the Finnish designer who won the Grand Prix of the jury Première Vision at the international Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères in 2013 is going to bring the marinière into her own aesthetics that has a strong relation with Nature. Satu Maaranen says she mixed Nature with something you couldn't expect, something playful and experimental. These adjectives brought her to be selected at Hyères and win the festival. This is what you can feel when thinking of her work with Petit Bateau which is going to be unique. The iconic knit striped is updated in abstract brushed stripes like a painter does on canvas. Maaranen also tried to keep the identity of the marinière as people could still think of it at the end. This collaboration with a contemporary designer is not the first attempt as there was Tsumori Chisato, Kitsuné Maison, Carven and now it's time for Maaranen to tell her own story.

You can shop exclusively one of the marinières by Satu Maaranen here. There's only 50 available so don't think too much!

FASHION REVOLUTION DAY

Today as you may all know it's Fashion Revolution Day! It's high time to really start buying less, choosing well, being aware of the quality, the way your clothes are made of and by whom. The revolution has begun and we're supporting this initiative by turning the jackets we're wearing inside out in this special look of the day as a way to rebel and electrocute the industry which has to stop their production of clothes in unbearable conditions. Be Curious! Find Out! Do something! You have to stand for something! Let's all bring the noise!

PERSPEX AND CIRCUMSTANCE

Among the twelve finalists of the LVMH Young Fashion Designers Prize we have made our choice. The panel of creative directors will announce the winner on May the 28th, but according to us it is Simone Rocha who deserves to win. She's got the strongest aesthetic among all the other designers and it has a deep and strong impact on us. She's more than a young fashion designer. She is an accomplished designer with a unique language. Having your own voice out there is not something that you can buy in a shop. It has to be natural when it comes to creation, something Rocha has deep inside her, something translated in her collections.

Her inspired Elisabethan AW14 collection of great perspex (her signature brogues) and circumstance rather than pomp and circumstance being the best collection of the latest London Fashion Week according to us of course! Rocha looked to the past for the royal inspiration, but not too much and you had the clothes for the rebel and the irreverent feelings coming out. Here you could read her signature in every garment. This collection is like an accomplished definition of her style. Her love for pearled embellishments and lace, but also her obsession with cheap and punk fabrics such as PVC, Faux Fur and python. The print of the PVC dresses looks like a leopard motif but instead, it is dark flowers. Her idea of beauty is perverse, low and profane. The sophistication of the pony skin dress, coat and skirt gives way to more outrageous pieces such as a faux fur coat and a sleeveless top in the following outfits. Rocha deconstructed formal garments such as trench coats and elisabethan shape dresses and trashed it, giving new proportions on the waist of dresses, adding ruffles on the sleeves embellished with pearls. There were references to the Elisabethan era but also to her mentor Kawakubo in the shapes, the colours (pink, red, glossy black) and in the wrinkled tartan. Kawakubo must be very fond of Rocha's work and style, considering the space dedicated to her SS14 collection in Dover Street Market. Rocha put Kawakuo under her spell, therefore everybody should be charmed.

LINKS A LA MODE: THE WEEKLY ROUNDUP [04/17]

This week, the theme of IFB Links A La Mode is "What makes you beautiful?" so it is not that surprising (yet it is a good surprise as always!) to be featured with our article about Phoebe Philo, the iconic British designer of the iconic French brand Céline. Ok, her aesthetics are not mainstream at all but her clothes make women feel so special and amazing! If you want to read what we had to say about Ms Philo and if you feel like discovering some other cool blogs, all the links can be found above. So enjoy yourselves and have a Happy Easter day!

What Makes You Beautiful?

They say "Beauty comes from within," but then, why are we constantly trying to perfect our outsides? Beauty issues have been making waves on the internet the past few weeks. What makes us beautiful? What is beautiful? Well, those are some pretty heavy questions and perhaps the answer cliche as it is, you know, coming from within... That "within" also encompasses self-care and self love. This week we have some wonderful beauty posts, along with posts that share the love.
